News and Announcements
The Irish 1st XV side from 1986-1992 was among six inductees – two teams and four individuals – in the Hall of Fame class of 2015. The induction ceremony was Nov. 14 in Mississauga.
The Ottawa Irish won seven consecutive league titles from 1986-92 and two McCormick Cup championships. They also won the rugby “triple crown” in 1991, with league, McCormick Cup and Sevens titles.
Among the local Irish who went on to play for Canada were Charron, John Billingsley, Mike Clarkin and Pierre Duey. Many more represented at the Ontario level from an Irish side that for a time was considered the finest in eastern Canada.
“I was so proud to play for such a great club with a great makeup of coaches, players and administrators,” Charron says. “I know that playing alongside the talented players I was fortunate to call teammates in training and in matches made me a much better player.
“We played a style that was open and entertaining well before it became fashionable to run and attack from anywhere no matter the score or field position. It was fun and a challenge and made this great game that much more enjoyable.”

The rugby community lost a legend this last weekend – Bill “Biff” Foster died of a heart attack at his Orleans home on Monday Feb 30th, 2016. Bill was a hero to so many – a key playing member of the Ottawa Irish 1st XV from 1986-92, a friend, a coach, a mentor, a warrior, a hero.
Although Bill’s playing career ended in the 90s, he remained active in the Club both on and off the field. Bill coached every team at the Ottawa Irish, from junior to senior – men and women, as well as the Eastern Ontario men and women. With help from Rich King and Chris “Ladds” Walsh, he started the Irish Women’s team in 1995, which celebrated its 20 year anniversary last summer! Bill was a great advocate of rugby, particularly at Rockland RDHS where he taught & coached for many years, as well as Earl of March, St. Paul’s and Pius taking teams to CIS and on endless tours. He gave back to rugby in every way, as so many National and Provincial players can attest.
Congratulations to Irene Patrinos, Pam Buisa and Erin Van Gulik who have been named on the Canada’s Senior Women’s 2016 Roster Long List!
