High School Coaches

Coaching offers a rewarding opportunity for interested players to pass on the knowledge and skills they’ve acquired through their rugby careers.

Assisting with high school rugby programs is a great place to start and provides a chance for the Ottawa Irish to build and enhance our reputation as a club filled with leaders on and off the field.

We’ve received a request from Colonel By Secondary for a coach/coaches for their Junior Boys’ team. If you are interested in this exciting opportunity or in helping out at any other school team, please contact Courtney Healey, OIRC High School Liaison at chealey002(AT)hotmail.com.

Upcoming Coaching Courses

April 14th – 15th, 2012 – Introduction to Competition

The Introduction to Competition two-day course is the first step towards certification as a qualified competitive coach in Canada’s. As described by Rugby Ontario: “This course is designed to give coaches working with competitive teams the tools to support their athletes. These tools include practice planning, role of the coach, analysing performance and many others.”

April 15th, 2012 – Community Initiation

One-day Community Initiation courses are aimed at community coaches working with non-contact Mini rugby players or with young players transitioning/being introduced to contact. More information can be found here.

Mini/Junior Clinic

The Ottawa Irish will be hosting back-to-back clinics for Mini rugby players (9am to 10am) and Junior players (10am to 12pm) at the Hornet’s Nest Park Superdome on April 21st, 2012. More details to come in upcoming weeks, but mark your calendar as this is an important day for club members to help recruit and develop future Irish stars.
