This past weekend, the EORU Junior U16 and U18 mens team defeated New Brunswick in the finals at the Eastern Canadian Championship held in Truro, Nova Scotia, to capture wins in both championships and bring home double gold medals! The U16 and U18 EORU mens teams suffered only one loss all weekend, which stands as a clear testament to the hard work of all the players, their parents, EORU junior club coaches and all support staff involved.

The Ottawa Irish RC was strongly represented by 8 players from our club’s U16 and U18 junior mens teams, who all gave outstanding performances and contributed directly to the EORU victories:

U18
Stuart Allan, Thomas Cunningham, Eamonn Lahey, and Mark Pregler;

U16
Fred Fabi, Mike Flemig, Mitchel Newman, and Malcolm Salmon.

(names listed alphabetically)

On behalf of the entire Ottawa Irish RC, active members, players, parents, and alumni, we wish to congratulate these fine young rugby players on a job well done! We are very proud of their performances, as well as proud of all our players (boys & girls) who play within our junior and mini rugby programs. And it is with great satisfaction that our club will continue to support the development of our athletes as they continue at higher levels of playing rugby in Canada and abroad.

We look forward to your next future successes! Congratulations!

OIRC Mini Jamboree

Posted by Dani McDermott at Jun 18, 2012 9:01AM PDT ( 4 Comments )

The Ottawa Irish Rugby Club held the first minor flag rugby jamboree of the 2012 season on Saturday, June 16 at Colonel By High School. This was the first time many of our young players took to the pitch in their first club game. After one month of hard core training these fine young athletes were able to demonstrate their strength and skills on the pitch.

With over 120 kids taking part from Eastern Ontario clubs, Barrhaven Scottish, Kingston Panthers and Ottawa Indians, the event was a success. Future Jamborees include: June 30 hosted by Kingston, July 7 hosted by the Ottawa Indians and July 14 hosted by the Barrhaven Scottish.

Many thanks to the volunteers who came out to help, the coaches, the refs, the parents and all the fans.

Senior Women Teams

The Senior Women II’s team played a hard fought match against CRQ’s Senior Women II’s team this Saturday June 16th. Both sides played well, and the game was close right up to the 80th minute. Unfortunately, the Irish Women II’s lost 7-10 to the CRQ Women II’s. Try scored by Carolyn Stewart, and conversion made by Emily Anderson.

The OIRC Women’s 1st’s Superleague team also played against the CRQ Women’s 1st’s Superleague team this Saturday June 16th. Again, both sides fought hard in the afternoon heat, with numerous scrums and lineouts. “The team really came together and played well!” says team Captain, Marie Bosco. The OIRC Women pulled out on top winning with a score of 24-19, tries scored by Lisa Gautier, Nicole Deacon, Jay Reyes, and conversions made by Kate Foulds.

Well Done Irish Lasses!
